Sharing the Love

Hey Guys! It’s Valentine’s Day so I wanted to share the love by posting some of the recent makeup related questions I have been asked.

How to keep lipstick on longer?

My personal favorite is to apply a dry eyeshadow (in a lip color) all over the lip. Then apply gloss or lipstick to finish. A dry base will always last longer…that’s why some people apply lip liner all over the lip. Check out my video: “DIY: “Lipstick!”

What’s a good everyday eye shadow for work? I’m African American with dark lids

Barefoot by Stila is a really beautiful color! Apply it all over the lid up to the crease and fade it out. Also, try Star Violet by MAC. This will give you an idea and good direction to do with! Don’t forget to curl your lashes! It polishes up a simple look for work!

I find my lips get dry quickly are there some options to suggest?

For dry lips, I recommend Mary Kay’s lip exfoliate! You have to exfoliate and get the dry skin off before you can apply moisturizer so it can penetrate into your skin.

Like I discuss inKhloe Kardashian’s Kissable Lips! and my blog post, “Valentine’s Day Lips

Currently, for Chicago weather right now I am exfoliating my lips every three days! For hydrating the lips, I like Keihl’s lip balm or Burts Bees is good. Something more affordable would be Lypsil Lip Balm- the one with the cute little “Bee Shape” on the side of the tube! ;)

How do you get mineral make up to stay on longer without touch ups, I’ve used Mac primer as well?!

Mineral Makeup is so natural that it makes a little more difficult for it to stay on longer. There are several things you could try. The powder by MAC that is the Mineralize Skin Finish is AMAZING!!! Is your skin oily? What skincare do you use? It could be something with your skincare too.

Do you put on concealer before foundation or over the foundation? I have been told two different things from different people. I like to apply concealer on after the foundation because I feel it just covers more. If you like it the other way- stick with it! As long as YOU are happy with the results that’s all that matters!

I have suffered with bad skin all my life, as soon as I get sick it shows on my skin, I have to be so careful with the products I use. I would love to hear about some makeup for REALLY sensitive skin, foundations and concealers mostly.

If your skin is really sensitive like that, I would recommend asking a dermatologist, someone that specializes in that branch of medicine dealing with the skin. They can determine what your skin may be reacting too.  You may be allergic to certain ingredients that are in your makeup or other skincare products.  However, makeup that is derived from natural ingredients is always a plus.  I prefer Aveda makeup.  I especially love some of their lipsticks that have peppermint in them!

What do you suggest for doing a smokey eye for someone with small eyes.

My advice to you would be invest is a few eyeshadow brushes that are on the smaller side so you have more control with the application.  Check out my video “Holiday Theater Look” for an everyday “light” smokey eye or “Black Swan Eyes” for a heavier darker smokey eye!!!!  I also give you the names of the brushes that I like to use, too!!!!!

Feel free to ask me any questions you may have, just post them directly to my Facebook wall or tweet them to me!
