Tips for Trade Shows: Chicago Makeup Show Mayhem!
Hi Guys! Recently, I went to the Chicago Makeup Show- a trade show for industry professionals and I wanted to share my experience with my fellow artist and other viewers! If you are a makeup artist, I HIGHLY recommend you checking out trade shows, as they are great for continuing education, networking, pro discounts, and learning about new product lines!
Some of the lines I checked out: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, DLISH, Inc., Crown Brushes, Makeup Forever, Stila, Inglot, Kett and Embryolisse Skincare. My two favorite finds were OCC’s Lip Tars and The Actor Bag.
TIPS FOR TRADE SHOWS:
-Network! You are there to learn, and meet new people. Dont be afraid to introduce yourself to others. Exchange business cards, and ask questions. The more you ask, the more you learn.
-Make A List and Stick To It. If I had not made a list, I would have gone way over my budget and might have bought things that I didn’t need. It’s super easy to get distracted.
-Go both days! If the show is offering a two day event, on the first day go to scout out products, and meet and greet other artists.
-Go Early! The second day, plan to arrive early so you can get all your purchases out of the way, as it gets really busy in the afternoon with last minute purchases.
-Follow up and connect! There was a reason why you asked a question, or loved a product. Dont forget to connect with the artists you exchanged business cards with. Subscribe to there blog, follow them on Twitter, or LIKE their Facebook page! The more love you give, the more love you will receive!
BLOGGER TIPS
If you are a blogger and will be blogging the event, look into seeing about obtaining a “press pass!” Usually, they will give you a tour and be able to set up interviews to speak with some of the featured speakers or educators!
Another great trade show is the International Makeup Artist Trade Show (IMATS) which is held in 6 different cities! If you live far from one of these cities, the best thing to do is go with other fellow makeup artists and split the transportation or hotel costs. These trade shows are few, but totally worth the investment to attend!!!
